Welcome to the 1st Annual BRAT Voting Guide.
Basically, this is how I am voting. Feel free to use this guide to assist you in how to vote tomorrow (or today, if you want to beat the lines, and your area offers early voting).
Your opinion differ from mine? Go cancel out my vote then. In the case of the presidential candidate, however, if you are voting for the “Sad Grandpa”, seriously reconsider your vote (presidential rant at the end of the blog).
The California Propositions
Prop 1a - A Hesitant YES
A high speed train from LA to SF. Sounds great! Oh, it won’t be in place until 2030 (or later)? Well, that sucks. Oh, wait, if the over-priced system isn’t paid for by the taxpayer money, then it comes out of the general fund of California? Well, shit. Still…we need better transportation. Pity you can’t just improve what already exists.
Prop 2 - YES
Humane treatment of livestock. No problem with that. The only people that seem to have a problem with it are out-of-state egg farmers, who are not-so-secretly funding the “no” campaign.
Prop 3 - YES
You gonna tell Jerry’s Kids that they can’t have a new hospital?
Prop 4 - NO
This has come up twice before, and twice before, was shot down. To quote the linked page above: “No law can mandate family communication.”
Prop 5 - A hesitant YES
Treatment is important, but dealers should be properly punished. A tricky one.
Prop 6 - NO
‘Nuff said.
Prop 7 - NO
I am a huge believer in green tech. I do not back this prop, though. Go write a better one, and try again.
Prop 8 - HELL NO!
Are you fucking kidding me? Save the sanctity of marriage? Stop thumping your bible so damn hard! Trying to alter THE CONSTITUTION just so your prejudice against a group of people can be written into permanent law is insane! What if there was a proposition on the ballot that said that overly religious people couldn’t do something? Would you think it fair? Get over it. You can not oppress a group of people because you don’t like what they do. Remember…you live in America. Freedom of speech, and SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE! You don’t like gay people? Fine. No one is forcing you to embrace “teh gay” (sic). The lie about kids being taught about gay marriage in school is absolute fucking bullshit. Is it taught now? No. Get over yourself, and just go crowd the world with more offspring, while driving your gas guzzling SUV with the laser cut stick figure stickers of you, your wife, your 14 kids, and your pets going from left to right on your back window.
Prop 9 - NO
It doesn’t really change anything that already currently exists.
Prop 10 - NO
No benefit to us.
Prop 11 - A hesitant YES
Seems very susceptible to making things worse, but things suck already!
Prop 12 - YES
They fought for us. We financially help them.
(proposition rant)
Can’t these fucking things be worded better? The wording is already hazy enough on some of these things, but then the ads twist the words around even more. Then you have the issue that people you normally agree with on this fucking crap vote opposite of what you would expect, which then causes your brain to numb as you try to find the wording that made those people vote the way they did! Fuck!
The Presidential Candidate
Barack Obama - A big, loud, SCREAMING YES
John McCain served his country. John McCain was tortured, but survived, and then went to go to fix the government. Commendable, but not enough to be the president.
John McCain has run a dirty campaign, filled with lies, which goes against what he had said he would do early in his campaign. Lies, deceit and bad decision (Palin anyone?). I have had enough of lies, deceit and bad decisions in my government!
(Presidential rant)
What saddens me about some people in this country is how they are willing to accept things at face value. Do you think I came up with how I am voting just by what I was told by other people? HELL NO! I read. I read a lot! I read impartial write ups, that point out the strengths and weaknesses of all candidates and propositions. I do not rely on smear campaign ads for my information. I don’t care about “staying on party lines”. I care about what is right.
Bible thumping. I rip on people who are overly religious. Personally, I have the simple belief that Karma is a bitch. Do onto others as you would have them do onto you. Simple. Easy. I don’t need to believe in an invisible man (who needs my money) to believe that. I don’t need to sit in a building one -or more - days a week, to have a person preach that to me. I already know it. Simple as that. Now, I don’t hate people who are overly religious. I simply question what caused them to go there.
There is a line in this country that separates church and state. It is a shame that there are a large number of people who fail to see that line (banning gays from marriage, the pledge of allegiance, et cetera), and it even more of a shame that fear of the “black man” (who happens to be a christian, not a muslim) will make some people vote for McCain.
Racism. Are you kidding? It’s 2008, people. If the man who has the plan has an ethnicity that bugs you, get over it! The middle name of Hussein (meaning small, handsome one) bugs you? You think his MIDDLE name relates him to Saddan Hussein (LAST name)!?!?! Are you that thick?
Terrorism. Bill Ayers. That name keeps getting thrown around. Let’s clear this up now! Bill Ayers belonged to a group that bombed the Pentagon, in protest of the Vietnam War (no people were hurt in the attack[s]). No charges were ever made, even after Mr Ayers surrendered to police in 1980. Mr Ayers is now a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Since the mid-1990s, Mr Ayers has had a few encounters with Barack, holding a small “meet and greet” in his home when Barack was running for Senate, contributing $200 to his campaign (2001), and serving alongside of Barack on the not-for-profit “Woods Fund Of Chicago” (an organization that helps the poor). Being helped by a man NOT CHARGED with a criminal act, early in your campaign, and working with him to help the poor. This is not a link to terrorism! You want your link? Why not ask McCain about his “old friend” G. Gordon Liddy, who was one of the chief masterminds behind Watergate, which led to Nixon resigning, and who spent 4.5 years (of 20) in prison for the theft! You want to tell me Barack Obama is a bad man, and throw that crap about Bill Ayers at me? I’ll come right back at you and say that G. Gordon Liddy is worse! Bill Ayers protested a war (and was never charged). G. Gordon Liddy was in PRISON, and has still gone on record for saying things like “if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they’re going to be wearing bulletproof vests. … Kill the sons of bitches.” Watch McCain stumble when David Letterman brings up G. Gordon Liddy (watch at 20:53).
A man (Obama) who can calmly address issues (watch every debate and stump speech - ever see him get pissed off?), or a man (McCain) who has a known temper, bad decision making abilities, bad health, a bad vice-president….oh man. Do I need to go on? How wide do I have to open your eyes?
Still having problems with Obama? Read the Urban Legends profile, and have a few of your mistaken assumptions corrected!
Grow a brain! Vote Obama!
