At Freakbeat Records in Sherman Oaks, CA., there's a ceremony of sorts. In the minutes leading up to the close of the shop, "closing" songs are played. "Hello Goodbye" by The Beatles, "Goodbye, Goodbye" by Oingo Boingo. You get the idea...
The last song, always, is "Closing Time" by Semisonic. They had been playing the song for weeks. It was starting to get a bit predictable, so I decided to whip the shop up a few new mashups of the song. The plan was that people would hear the mashups, and leave even quicker.
That plan failed. If anything, people stayed until the end of the mashup, then asked where they could get a copy.
While I admit defeat in my plan to get people out of the shop at the stroke of 6pm, it is pretty cool that I did enough of these mashups to make an entire album.
