Origin: Back in the day, I used to do a lot of razor-based editing (physically cutting tape - the good old days). As I was poor, I didn't have a lot of money for spools of new Ampex 456. Instead, I used to dumpster dive behind a recording studio every week in North Hollywood. Lots and lots of free one-pass blank open reel tape. Suffices to say, I helped myself to as much as I could push back home (using a shopping cart). As I had plenty of tape, I used to set my crappy thrift shop open reel (usually a variation on a Sony Superscope) to the "slow" tape setting, and record hours of KROQ. This is one of those trashed open reel tapes. The lack-of-quality stems from: cheap tape, slow speed, and using a $20 thrift shop tape deck to record. Hey...how much you paying for this! Quit complaining! :)
This KROQ aircheck originates from 1988. Poorman is the DJ, along with "intern" Lewis Largent and Wil Wheaton via phone. Enjoy around an hour of classic KROQ.
