"Things We Said Today" is one of my favorite songs by The Beatles. The mood the song had in it blew my mind when I was a kid.
When "The Beatles: Rock Band" hit, and all the stems for the songs in the game became "available", I spent hours channeling my inner George Martin, playing around with all the bits of the songs. What was sad, though, was that "Things We Said Today" was not in the game.
Thanks to "the latest technology", I was able to pull an acapella out of my 2009 remastered "A Hard Day's Night" CD!
After figuring out the BPM of the song, I just started randomly playing songs of that tempo from iTunes. As soon as I hit Isaac Hayes, my mind was blown.
As I didn't want to have the same loop going through the entire mix, I decided to bring in the guitar break from the Portishead remix of Massive Attack's "Karmacoma". Playing around further, I peppered elements of "2wicky" by Hooverphonic into the mix (since it samples the Isaac Hayes track).
Now, the song is already a bit sad, but I decided to go "full sad" and sync the mashup to Pixar's film "Up". Warning: you will cry.
Love is here to stay and that's enough.
